Blue Monster

Blue Monster

I dreamt a dream last night of the ocean
In Waves
In and out—
Taken Breaths
Turbulating in Cycles
Cyclasy
Periodocity
The Steady beat of life in rhythm:
A Vibration
That Shivers
And Quakes
Like strained muscles asked
To compress and relax beyond their capability
Take:
Shivering beats all the way to the grave

—“I have intended for you a plot up in the Coalville Cemetery.”—
—“Not if the ocean gets me first.”

It called me to its clutches again last night.
An estuary town
Buried in the tide—
Twice a day
Drowned
I was running down
Ever Chasing,
Expecting something
And Searching
Like a kid who thought he saw the end of the rainbow
Awestruck
Mystified
Stupefied
Silenced
My breath cut short and the rhythm interrupted
One beat less
A misstep toward the grave
An inverse experience to when the body runs too fast
And the extra breath inserted
Upsets the rhythm
And you know you cannot go on much longer like this
Without breaking
Or falling down
