LA

LA

Up before dawn and on
Do they go
Battling the freeways
Battling themselves
Trying to take on life empty-handed
And in the bright flash of the city
They are struck
To find themselves lost in the darkness
For the only light that’s present to guide them
Are the stars that shine in their faces
And blind them

Where is God in this City of Angels?
Drowned in the waves
That the crowds zealously follow
Tide in
Tide out
The pulse and the rhythm
Will not be disturbed to take thought and take note
That one day the hourglass will catch up with them all—
20 million lives spent
With nothing to show
